SML12 League Update

June 24, 2012 in AGLA by TrueFlyingCow

Hi, now that summertime has officially begun we’re getting ready for the summer league! This is a special season, as it’ll also be our last in Halo: Reach. I know I’m looking forward to seeing what Halo 4 will bring for grifball and also halo in general, but until then lets give Reach a nice send-off! Three things to talk about this time – elections, the summer season, and events.

Elections!

So first, you may have noticed that the Elections page has appeared. Right now we’re taking applications for these positions: Head of events, Hall of Fame Committee x5, Advertising Committee, Head of Graphic Design, and Head of Rules. Applications are open from now until Sunday, July 1st. Then we’ll have voting for the elections from July 1st – 8th. So if you’d like to help out the league and do one of those things, head on over to the elections page and send in an application! If you’ve got a question about something or aren’t sure if that’s something you might want to do, feel free to contact me. I’d also like to announce that NOPLEX has volunteered to step up and be head of stats for the summer season, so next time you see him say thanks! And if you’d like to help keep track of stats this season and join his stats committee, contact him sometime and we’ll get you set up with how to do stuff.

SML12!

Now, the season. We’ll be opening signups next week, and they’ll run from July 1st – 8th, with the season starting July 9th. The 5 weeks of scheduled games would finish by August 12th, makeup week by the 19th, then playoffs. Now normally we avoid overlap with the GGL’s regular season, since many teams like to participate in both leagues, but we couldn’t wait any longer without having most of the season in that tricky end-of-summer, transitioning back to school time, missing the summer completely, and/or not finishing in time for halo 4. But don’t panic, if you’re trying to do both leagues it’ll still be easy. We’re offering division times before/after the GGLs so you shouldn’t need to play 2 games at once. We’ll be looking a bit closer at last season’s signups and possible tweaking these times a bit, but for now the tentative divisions available would be at 8 or 10 pm CST on weekdays (8 or 11 pm CST on Friday), or 9 pm on Saturday, 8pm Sunday. If you have any concerns/comments/suggestions about these times, let us know this week! We want everybody to be able to enjoy reach’s last season!

Events!

Lastly, events. Lightsaber recently announced several events coming up soon. There is vanilla and dash on June 25th, a halo with guns rush on the 28th, Smashball! on the 29th, and a mystery rush, where the gametype can change each round, on July 3rd. Lots of those sound interesting and fun, so if you’re free on those days in the evening you should check them out!

Almost done!

Remember when I said there were 3 things to talk about?

Three things to talk about this time – elections, the summer season, and events.

…well I kinda lied. Now that summertime is here, some people have a bit more free time. And I’ve been approached several times by people saying they’d like to write something or do an article, but they don’t have an idea. I think it would be fun to have more new content up here, but having an idea is half the battle. So, if anybody has a suggestion for an article…let me know! Either in the comments part below here, forums, xbox, wherever. Or if you’re interesting in writing and continuing a “series” already started, jet let me and/or the original creator know. Game recaps and stuff are fun, but not really applicable during the off-season. Team interviews are cool. And I’d like to have more random things like matchmaking challenges, and now that fileshare is working on waypoint I’d like to bring “Will it Arm” into a semi-regular series. So, in summary – if you’ve got an article/idea/want to help with any of the ideas suggested anywhere…let me know!
